Female Victims of Violent Crime - Bureau of Justice Statistics, 12/96. This 3-page report includes 1992-94 data for rape/sexual assault, robbery, and assault from the redesigned National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS), victimization trend data for 1973-94 adjusted for the redesign, and homicide data from the 1995 FBI Uniform Crime Reports. It summarizes the latest published data on both fatal and nonfatal violence between intimates (present or former spouse, boyfriend, or girlfriend) as opposed to relatives, friends or acquaintances, and strangers.

Violence Against Women - This BJS Special Report is the first release of the 1992-93 estimates of violence against women after an extended effort to improve the victimization survey's ability to measure violence against women. The survey now asks more explicit and direct questions about sexual assaults and other victimizations perpetrated by known offenders. Data include annual number of violent victimizations, rapes, and sexual assaults against women; number perpetrated by intimates (including husbands, ex-husbands, boyfriends, and ex-boyfriends); rates for violence by intimates for women versus rates for men; rates for violence and sexual assaults by strangers; age and family income of female victims of violence; and rates of injury.

Violence by Intimates - March 1998 - This report is a compilation of statistical data maintained by the Bureau of Justice Statistics and the FBI on violence between people who have an intimate relationship -- spouses, exspouses, boyfriends, girlfriends, and former boyfriends and girlfriends. The data is based on information gathered from victims, law enforcement agencies, hospital emergency departments, and those convicted of crimes against intimates. The violent offenses encompass crimes such as murder, rape, sexual assault, and simple assault. Intimate violence predominantly affects women as victims.
Violence-Related Injuries Treated in Hospital Emergency Departments - Presents findings from a study of violence-related injuries treated in hospital emergency departments in 1994 conducted using the Consumer Product Safety Commission's National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (NEISS) program. The study found that 1.4 million persons were treated in hospital emergency departments in 1994 for injuries inflicted in confirmed or suspected interpersonal violence. Of these, 243,000 were inflicted by someone with whom the victim had an intimate relationship (spouse, ex-spouse, or current or former boyfriend or girlfriend), an estimate 4 times higher than the equivalent estimate from the National Crime Victimization Survey. 8/97 NCJ 156921 (can download report)

Trends in Juvenile Violence - by Dr. James A. Fox, Dean, School of Criminal Justice, Northeastern University. This report discusses demographic trends and their impact on crime. It concludes that the growth in juvenile population in the next decade will cause a dramatic increase in the level of juvenile violence. This report, produced under a Bureau of Justice Statistics grant, is based on Dr. Fox's briefing of the Attorney General in 1995. An updated report with results through 1996 is now available.
Trends in Juvenile Violence in European Countries - May 1988 - Researchers studied trends in juvenile crime and violence in member states of the European Union. The study was organized around two key issues: Patterns and changes in juvenile crime--in particular, such violent crimes as robbery, assault, rape, and homicide--as recorded by law enforcement bodies in several European Union countries.
Uniform Crime Reports - This collection consists of four county-level data files. The first three provide arrests for Part I offenses (murder, rape, robbery, assault, burglary, larceny, auto theft, and arson) and for Part II offenses (forgery, fraud, embezzlement, vandalism, weapons violations, sex offenses, drug and alcohol abuse violations, gambling, vagrancy, curfew violations, and runaways). The fourth file provides reported offenses (as opposed to arrests) for Part I crimes only. Two county population variables are included: one for total county population and the other for counties reporting six months or more of data. Healthy People 2000 - Complete text with revised baseline data. In February 1993, the Public Health Service (PHS) Healthy People 2000 Steering Committee accepted the NCHS recommendation to revise the baselines for approximately 100 objectives. Healthy People 2000 presents 523 specific (unduplicated) objectives and special population subobjectives to improve the health of Americans by the year 2000. at the time of publication, Healthy People 2000 included 91 objectives without baseline data points, and many more with only partial baselines. Since the publication of Healthy People 2000, 39 objectives that were without baselines now have at least baseline data.
