Black Belt Community Foundation

| The Black Belt Arts Initiative is a partnership with the BBCF, Youth & Cultural Committee of the Black Belt Action Commission, and the Alabama State Council on the Arts (ASCA,) promotes artists, arts awareness, and creativity in the Black Belt. Grant Awards are available for projects addressing visual arts, performing arts, literary arts, cultural history, or other areas that coincide with the goals of BBAI. The Community Grants support efforts that engage Black Belt residents that address any community issue or need. Proposed activities can include but are not limited to: community economic development, education, environment, health and human services, youth, and/or other areas benefiting the community. Alabama 's Black Belt stretches across the middle of the state from Mississippi almost to the Georgia line. Rich in human, religious, geographic and political diversity, the Black Belt got its name from the region's rich, dark soil. |

Brookshire Grocery Co.’s Community Connections activities include assisting Habitat for Humanity, the East Texas Food Bank, United Way Day of Caring, Special Olympics, Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, Coats for Kids, Relay for Life, Muscular Dystrophy Association telethons and other fundraisers, local homeless shelters, animal shelters and many more. |

Matching gifts or challenge grants are encouraged as a means of leveraging the funding effort. |

Communities served by the Foundation constitute 10 percent of the population and land of Mississippi. The service area covers eight counties: Coahoma, DeSoto, Marshall, Panola, Quitman, Tallahatchie, Tate and Tunica. |
