Nonprofit Kit for Dummies (With CD-ROM)
by Stan Hutton (Author), Frances Phillips (Author) (Paperback)
List Price: $19.95

Customer Review
Great book for someone starting at ground zero!

Before I found this book, I was struggling with my fear of overlooking some important aspect while starting a non-profit, the Financial Literacy Infusion Project (FLIP). My intrepidation was actually putting some of FLIP's potential funding in jeopardy. When I looked at the scope of topics in the table of contents, I breathed a sigh of relief. I was on my way to filling in some important "holes" I had overlooked and feeling confident that I was developing a strong foundation for FLIP.

Hutton & Phillips cover the gamut of starting and running a non-profit in a reader-friendly format. NP for Dummies is also loaded with references and resources for more information on any subject covered. The CD is also a definite, easy to use PLUS!

Balanced Scorecard Step-by-Step for Government and Nonprofit Agencies
by Paul R. Niven (Author) (Hardcover)
Price: $41.24

Customer Review
I've read most of the literature on the Balanced Scorecard and the previous books by Norton & Kaplan and Paul Niven himself. Being a Management Consultant of 15 years, I worked with numerous for-profit and not-for-profit organizations and have the usual skepticism towards theory books. This latest book on Balanced Scorecard was easy-to-read with numerous examples from Balanced Scorecard implementations in public sector. I found the step-by-step approach to be practical and quite down-to-earth with numerous take aways for a reader interested in BSC or a performance management practitioner, like myself. The book rightly touches upon the challenges in the scorecard implementations, and offers valuable advice. If you haven't read any previous books on this subject, you can read this book alone for a good idea on what the Balanced Scorecard is all about, and how you go about its implementation.

Strategic Planning for Nonprofit Organizations: A Practical Guide and Workbook
by Michael Allison (Author), Jude Kaye (Author)
Price: $27.97

Customer Review
This is an excellent guide to developing a strategic plan, from conception to execution. While emphasizing the fact that the process is messy and nonlinear, this book enables one to take the first step, plan to plan, and decide how in-depth the focus needs to be. There is appropriate emphasis on the need to develop mission and vision, and detailed worksheets for every question that may be relevant to your organization's situation. The diskette provides all the templates for putting it together. Highly recommended.

Customer Review
After reading several books and on-line articles on non-profit management, I have found this book to be one of the most helpful that you can find. It has everything from strategic planning, to board and staff relations. What a great book! Even with my years of experience in working with non-profit organizations I still found this book to be very helpful.
The Only Grant Writing Book You'll Ever Need: Top Grant Writers and Grant Givers Share Their Secrets!
by Ellen Karsh, Arlen Sue Fox (Paperback - July 2003)

Customer Review
This really IS the only grant- writing book you'll ever need. It's an extremely helpful book that is both readable as well as comprehensive. The websites are exhaustive, the appendix material useful, the glossary of terms highly technical and inclusive, and the interviews with funders are unique. All in all - a gem.
Fundraising on the Internet: The ePhilanthropyFoundation.org's Guide to Success Online, 2nd Edition
by Mal Warwick (Editor), et al (Paperback)
Price: $20.30

Customer Review
A fantastic collection of resources! Warwick, Hart, and Allen brought together an amazing array of experts to assemble a practical, hands-on book full of interesting case examples. As an application service provider working almost exclusively with non-profits, we found the book particularly useful as a source book for guidelines and best practices. Our clients who have read the book were enthusiastic about everything from the specific strategies to the fundraising tips.

This is an all-encompassing, basic guide that makes fundraising on the Internet accessible to the most inexperienced nonprofits but gives insightful advice to veterans. I wholeheartedly recommend the book and plan to make this required reading for our customers and employees.
Ten Steps to Fundraising Success: Choosing the Right Strategy for Your Organization (With CD-ROM)
by Mal Warwick (Author), Stephen Hitchcock (Author) (Paperback)
Price: $27.94

Customer Review
I was extremely impressed with the content and format! I have read other fundraising books and found the ten steps to be one of the best, a necessary guide for anyone involved in a not-for-profit organization's operations. It concisely captures the necessary fundamentals involved in successfully empowering an organization. The CD-ROM was a great bonus and it was quite easy to manuever through the comprehensive worksheets and exercises - I especially liked "Evaluating your Executive Director" and the other assessment tools. I highly recommend this guide!
The Complete Book of Model Fundraising Letters
by Roland Kuniholm (Textbook Binding)
Price: $48.00

Customer Review
Not only does this book offer real-life examples of letters for every conceivable fund-raising campaign and situation, it explains the structure of successful fund-raising letters. I refer to it frequently. 5 stars I reserve for anything written by Mal Warwick, who is in a class by himself. But 4 stars means I found Mr. Kuniholm's book well worth the money, repeatedly useful, practical, educational and wise.
