Handbook For Writing Proposals
Robert J. Hamper; Paperback; Buy New: $13.27

Customer Review
This is one of the best books available on proposals. As the managing partner of a global consulting firm, I was particularly pleased to see that co-author L. Sue Baugh served six years as senior editor at Booz, Allen & Hamilton developing, writing, and producing proposals. This instant credibility was borne out by the quality of the material -- really top notch. One of the best things about this book is that it includes numerous excerpts and samples from various proposals. Many proposals books fail to include sufficient examples and excerpts. The only thing that I really didn't like about the book was that it spends so much time discussing RFPs. My firm tries to avoid RFPs. Why? Because we believe that we offer truly unique service solutions (and our approaches have been trademarked to protect these unique service solution). We certainly don't want to be one of several consultancies competing for a "commodity" project. However, despite this focus on RFPs, this book is still one of the best available. Strangely enough, the best book I have found is a member of the "For Dummies..." collection: Bob Kantin's "Sales Proposals Kit For Dummies." If you work in consulting or other business services profession, I'd recommend that you purchase both books.

Demystifying Grant Seeking: What You REALLY Need to Do to Get Grants
Larissa Golden Brown; Hardcover; Buy New: $18.87

Customer Review
I am new to the grant writing field. I started my education by reading this book. I found it very informative, but easy to follow. The book is not only theoretical, but offers a great deal of "hands on" advice, including sample forms, grants, etc. The writing style was straighforward and professional. I found the book to be an excellent way to start gaining a practical understanding of this field.
Writing for a Good Cause: The Complete Guide to Crafting Proposals and Other Persuasive Pieces for Nonprofits
Joseph Barbato; Paperback; Buy New: $15.00

Customer Review
When I am on deadline and desperately in need of help, "Writing for a Good Cause" is where I turn first for guidance, solace, or inspiration (seeing as how our office manager objects to open containers of alcohol at one's desk). Not only is this book full of incredibly practical writing tips in handy list form, it is also very funny and a page turner.

The heart of the book is a clear guide to how to write a great proposal, but other valuable topics are covered, including newsletters, case statements, interviews, and the like.

I started from nothing, only knowing that a grant goes on a
piece of paper(s). This book remains an invaluable resource.

How to Get Grants and Gifts for the Public Schools
Stanley Levenson; Paperback; Buy New: $25.00

Customer Review
Dr.Stanley Levenson has written a much needed book for public educators. Today, in a time of monetary crisis for many school districts in the nation, any book that can shed light on where to get money for innovative and creative programing is welcome. Dr. Levenson's does that and more.
Classroom teachers can use his work as a guide to understanding what it takes to write a grant proposal. Nowhere in a teacher's college education is anything like this taught, or for that matter, mentioned. Yet, teachers are constantly trying to be innovative and creative in their teaching. Sometimes, without funds it is hard to try the new and "impractical" in the classroom. With the guidance of Dr. Levenson's book, teachers are walked through the grant writing proposal step by step. But the book does not stop there!

He lists places where money can be found. The federal, state and local government all have some money earmarked for educational innovation. He lists them. Private funds and foundations, an area where money for the public school systems is growing rapidly, are listed and studied. Levenson tells what types of grants each foundation likes to fund (an extremely important idea).

The Consultant's Guide to Proposal Writing : How to Satisfy Your Clients and Double Your Income
Herman Holtz; Hardcover; Buy New: $24.47

Customer Review
This particular book was rather helpful to me, for as a writer already, and knowing the pressures and demands (edits, edits, edits, and deadlines, deadlines, deadlines)besides pleasing the client and of course attract the attention of the desired reader---this book is a straightforward how-to on what you need to do inorder to meet and satisfy all the elements when writing a proposal.

The content and context are thorough and easy to understand and follow for someone experienced in proposal writing but also matter-of-fact enough for anyone desiring to dip into this specific field of writing. It also provides basic and general tips that apply to the nature and the art of writing in itself.
The First-Time Grantwriters Guide to Success
Cynthia Knowles; Paperback; Buy New: $24.95

Customer Review
I had to write a grant in order to keep my job. I was clueless, and bought this book sight-unseen because of the title. I couldn't have been happier with the step-by-step format, easy examples and plain language. Anyone, even me, can write a grant with this book. I wrote the grant and got funded! The examples in the book are great. I wrote my grant to cover art supplies for my therapy work. Now that I know how easy it is to write a grant, I've got plans to write more and expand our program.
