Review
I, too, was a little put off by the cost of such a small book, but having been a small business owner myself, I immediately recognized that Ms. Browning has generously shared marketing information that is crucial to the success of any business, especially one that is home-based. The "dollars" is a SMALL price to pay for the inside tips and tricks of someone who is obviously a success in her field. If you want to write grants and start a home-based business, I could not recommend another book as highly as this one.

The Fund Raiser's Guide to the Internet
by Michael Johnston
List Price: $24.47
Paperback  256 Pages
Book Description
This practical, nontechnical guide to fundraising on the Internet, written by an Internet veteran who's designed scores of successful money-making sites, describes not only how to set up an attention getting Web site, but also how to make a Web site as well as any credit card transaction entirely secure. The Fund Raiser's Guide to the Internet takes the novice Web site creator from the basics of writing on the electronic tablet to tips on creating an effective reply device, complete with information on designing a premium gift array, made with exhilarating graphics. Examples of innovative sites for such world-class nonprofits as the Rainforest Action Network, the World Wildlife Fund USA, and Greenpeace Canada illustrate the sites' role in overall fundraising campaigns. Complete with a Web site scratchpad for designing a mock-up Web page, a checklist of "musts" for fundraising sites at the end of every chapter, and a disk with over 100 sites referenced in the book, The Fund Raiser's Guide offers site-tested advice on how to actually craft and perfect a Web site that turns a site visitor into a committed donor.
Review
There is no doubt that Johnston's book is the most thorough study to date about how nonprofits utilize the Internet. It's full of real examples, which is a rare thing in Internet literature. Usually, it's just about potential and hype. Now, we've got some real data.

It's a Great Day to Fund-Raise!
A Veteran Campaigner Reveals the Development Tips and Techniques That Will Work for You
by Tony Poderis
List Price: $35.00
Paperback  116 Pages
Editorial Review
Dr. Wayne P. Lawson, Executive Director Ohio Arts Council Columbus, Ohio
"Tony's book is an instant classic and an indispensable reference tool which belongs on the desk of every non-profit fund-raiser, no matter what their levels of experience or responsibility might be."
Review
Stephen C. Nill, American Philanthropy Review, USA
The problem with Tony Poderis is that he is terribly tardy in writing "It's a Great Day to Fund-Raise!" If I had read it 20 or so years ago, when he should have written it, I would have avoided some of the blunders he warns against. I wouldn't have taken nearly so long to become effective as a fund raiser. And I wouldn't have quite so many gray hairs today, each earned in the hard school of "experience." But (sigh) he wrote it only recently. Of course, there is a good reason for the interminable wait: Tony first had to rack up an incredible 20 years as director of development for The Cleveland Orchestra, where he was responsible for the largest annual institutional fund-raising campaign in Cleveland. Oh, and toss in another four or five years subsequent consulting experience, as well. I note, with some satisfaction, that the author has even more gray hairs than do I -- each one earned, no doubt, in the same "school."

The Nonprofit Guide to the Internet: How to Survive and Thrive
by Michael W. Johnston, Robbin Lee Nonprofit Guide to the internet Zeff
Our Price: $20.97
Paperback  240 Pages
Book Description
This easy-to-use guide provides nonprofits with the information they need to not only survive on the Internet, but thrive. Completely updated, it includes the latest technical advances, market trends, and cutting edge tools that all nonprofits need if they want to maintain a cyber-advantage.
Review
The book's appeal is not just in the use of brief case studies, but also in its ample use of screen shots. Somehow just reading about various sites is not enough; we need to be shown them. And that's just what Johnston does, and amply, throughout. For a book on the Internet, this is as user-friendly as you can get. If the Internet is a hot topic with nonprofit organizations, then on-line fund raising is the hottest of the hot. Though it is probably impossible to write a definitive chapter on this topic, given the break-net pace with which "cyber-fund-raising" is galloping along, Johnston's treatment is among the better discussions I've seen in print.

Nonprofit Kit for Dummies (With CD-ROM)
by Stan Hutton, Frances Phillips
Our Price: $20.99
Paperback - 356 pages 1st edition (January 15, 2001)
From the Back Cover
"A nonprofit almanac, dictionary, atlas, and field guide all rolled into one!" Jan Masaoka, CompassPoint Nonprofit Services "This book will help you ask — and answer — all the right questions." Putnam Barber, The Internet Nonprofit Center
Review
This book puts it all together, with very savvy advice on not just what to do to launch and sustain a non-profit, but how to do it well, with realistic goals. My favorite sections are the ones on writing: how to develop a mission statement and a grant proposal. But all the nuts & bolts information about budgeting and raising money is excellent, too. The advice also is very flexible, so it can apply to nonprofits that are social service-oriented, arts-oriented, etc. A good starting point for all of us who want to turn dreams into realities.

Storytelling for Grantseekers: The Guide to Creative Nonprofit Fundraising
by Cheryl A. Clarke (Author)
List Price: $18.20
Editorial Review:
Amazon.com
Grantwriters, it turns out, have plenty in common with fiction and nonfiction storytellers. Like these other writers, says Cheryl A. Clarke in Storytelling for Grantseekers, grantseekers need to "transport readers to another location and teach them about people they may know nothing about." Grantwriting is often a tedious experience. Make it creative, says Clarke. To better capture the imagination (and wallet) of your audience, observe your agency in action as would a reporter, then craft what you see into a narrative as would a novelist. Your nonprofit agency is your hero; your story is about "people being helped, and their lives possibly being changed forever" because of the services provided by your agency. This is a passionate, clear, knowledgeable guidebook, sure to "put the joy and creativity back into the grantseeking process." With additional chapters on finding and cultivating appropriate grantmakers, forming a budget, and packaging your proposal. --Jane Steinberg.

Review
Despite the best horticultural efforts, money does not grow on trees. Schools know this all too well. Budgets are tight and the demands are high. Technology investment is one of these demands, and it's a pesky one. Technology changes how we work, and keeping up with these cultural changes requires investments. So if not the trees, from where do the resources come? David Bauer's TECHNOLOGY FUNDING FOR SCHOOLS (Feb. 2000) begins to tackle the problem.

And, once the workbook exercises are completed, your organization will have a fully developed grant proposal.

Write Grants, Get Money     Only 1 left in stock--order soon (more on the way).

Editorial Reviews
From School Library Journal
This down-to-earth, practical handbook incorporates many of the collaborative activities recommended by the American Association of School Librarians national standards, Information Power. The step-by-step instructions will serve novices and experienced grant writers. The author's advice about reading grants to gain experience is excellent. Developing a plan, identifying the need, writing, rewriting, and rewriting again are all encouraged. The ideas, encouragement, and guidelines apply to any grant application process. Readers would do well to become acquainted with the 12 appendixes as soon as possible; the online journals and Web sites listed are invaluable resources. However, there is a lack of information about state agencies. Many times federal money flows through these agencies, which aren't listed. The other omission is a discussion of "outcomes." More and more frequently grants require that the applicant indicate what difference the monies will make to students. What changes will result if this program is funded? Will reading scores increase? Will parents use the library? Despite these drawbacks, this title is a useful addition.
