The Walmart Foundation strives to provide opportunities that improve the lives of individuals in our communities including our customers and associates. Through financial contributions, in-kind donations and volunteerism, the Walmart Foundation supports initiatives focused on enhancing opportunities in our four main focus areas:
- Education
- Workforce Development / Economic Opportunity
- Environmental Sustainability
- Health and Wellness
The Walmart Foundation has a particular interest in supporting the following populations: veterans and military families, traditionally underserved groups, the disability community and people impacted by natural disasters.
How We Help
In all of our giving efforts, we strive to meet the unmet needs of underserved populations and support organizations that give individuals access to a better life. We believe in operating globally and giving back locally. We encourage our associates to support programs that make a positive difference in their communities through volunteer efforts and financial contributions. We involve our associates in determining how Walmart Foundation dollars are used to support causes that are important to them.
National Giving Program
The Walmart Foundation strives to provide opportunities that improve the lives of individuals in our communities including our customers and associates. Through its philanthropic programs and partnerships, the Walmart Foundation funds initiatives focused on creating opportunities in education, workforce development, economic opportunity, environmental sustainability, and health and wellness. Organizations that are considered for funding through the Walmart Foundation’s National Giving Program implement programs in multiple sites across the country or have innovative initiatives that are ready for replication nationally. State Giving Program
Through the State Giving Program, the Walmart Foundation supports organizations with programs that align with our mission to create opportunities so people can live better. The State Giving Program awards grants starting at $25,000 to nonprofit organizations that serve a particular state or region.
State Advisory Councils, made up of local Walmart associates represent each state, including Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico. The State Advisory Councils determine the needs within each state, review all eligible grant applications and make funding recommendations to the Foundation. State Giving Program Guidelines
The Foundation has adopted four areas of focus: Education, Job Skills Training, Environmental Sustainability and Health. While the Walmart Foundation encourages funding requests that align with its four areas of focus – programs that do not align with the four areas of focus will also be given full consideration.
Walmart Store and Sam’s Club Giving Programs
The Walmart Foundation is proud to support the charitable organizations that are important to our customers and associates in their own neighborhoods. Walmart’s founder, Sam Walton, introduced the philosophy, “operate globally, give back locally.” Today, the Walmart Foundation continues to support local, state and national organizations that provide opportunities in the communities we serve. Through our Walmart Store and Sam’s Club Giving Programs, Walmart Stores and Sam’s Clubs can recommend grants beginning at $250 to local charitable organizations.
