RBC Foundation – USA – Profile

 RBC Wealth Management provides most of its community funding through the RBC Foundation – USA, with Foundation grants in excess of $3.1 million in 2008.
 
Mission
The Foundation’s mission is to improve the quality of life in the communities where we do business by supporting non-profit organizations that make a positive difference. The Foundation gives special consideration to organizations in which our employees are involved. For maximum impact, we direct our giving to three focus areas:  
 

 

 

  • Arts & Culture
  • Human Services
  • Youth Education

Arts & Culture
The arts reflect our culture and enrich the quality of life in the communities where our employees and clients live. The Foundation’s emphasis is on:

  • Preeminent arts and culture institutions;
  • Arts programs that generate an appreciation of diverse cultures; and
  • Programs that foster young people’s appreciation of the arts.We do not fund the following areas:
    • Audio or video recording projects;
    • Literary or media arts;
    • Individual artists; or
    • Artist enrichment programs.

Human Services
Because our business depends on economic and community growth, we support human services programs that:

  • Foster economic independence;
  • Promote self-sufficiency; and
  • Strengthen families.We do not fund the following areas:
    • Medical, health, and mental health services;
    • Disease-specific and disease-related requests;
    • Hospitals, nursing homes, and hospice care;
    • Senior citizen programs; or
    • Childcare or daycare programs or facilities.

Youth Education
Education is critical because it prepares young people for the future. Our Foundation grants focus on:

  • Effective K-12 education programs that promote a diverse student population;
  • Effective K-12 education programs that benefit economically disadvantaged students; and
  • Programs that help young people understand our country’s economic system.We do not fund the following areas:
    • Educational requests that do not serve K-12 students;
    • Recreational or athletic programs; or
    • Programs serving only special needs students.

The Foundation cannot fund:

  • Sponsorships (please click this link for information on corporate sponsorships);
  • Fundraising events (e.g. dinners, benefits, or sporting events);
  • Athletic teams, events, or scholarships;
  • Direct grants to individuals, including scholarships, travel and related expenses;
  • Religious, political, fraternal, or veterans organizations;
  • Academic, medical, or scientific research;
  • Non-501(c)(3) organizations.
