Community Foundation
The Arizona Community Foundation's competitive grants program aims at improving
the lives of children, families, and the elderly by improving living conditions
in neighborhoods, communities, and the environment across the state.
Special Fields of Interest: In addition to the program areas described
above, Community Foundation donors have also designated funds for specific types
of programs. In most cases, these are modest funds allowing for small grants in
specific areas such as hearing impairment, animal welfare, rights of the
non-smokers, school books, physical and mental disability, gay and lesbian
populations and the arts.

conservation and habitat protection of the following animals: large cats; great

also works for the humane treatment of domesticated animals.

The Fuller Foundation
The Fuller Foundation seeks proposals in three focus areas of grantmaking: Youth
at Risk, "Wildlife, Endangered Species - Their
Environment, and Animals Helping People", and the Arts. Geographic focus
area of their grantmaking is predominantly the Boston area and the immediate
seacoast area of New Hampshire.
Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation, Inc. - New Jersey
The Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation makes grants in five major areas: 1)
elementary and secondary education; 2) arts, with a primary focus on New Jersey
and on programs that seek to establish and improve education in the arts, foster
conditions that promote public access to the arts, recognize the critical role
of the individual artist, enable developing institutions to gain stability, and
help major institutions realize long-term goals; 3)
welfare of animals, especially projects with national implications that
encourage a more humane ethic and lower the violence in the way we treat animals;
4) public issues, with a particular interest in New Jersey and the Northeast and
focusing on ecosystems preservation, energy conservation, pollution prevention
and reduction, education and communication efforts that lead to enlightened
environmental policy, and projects that address population growth and family
planning; and 5) local projects in Morris County, New Jersey.
Glaser Family Foundation - Washington
The Glaser Family Foundation focuses on the areas of homelessness, animal
rights, and socially-conscious media.
Katharine Matthies Foundation - Connecticut
Since the Foundation’s first distributions were made in 1989, over $6 million
has been awarded to benefit local non-profit organizations. Grants are made for
education, social service, sports, recreation, health care, culture, prevention
of cruelty to children and animals, and other programs that benefit local
residents and improve the quality of life in Seymour, Oxford, Beacon Falls,
Ansonia and Derby.

Maddie's Fund
In 1994, Dave and Cheryl Duffield created Maddie's Fund, an independent private
foundation dedicated to the welfare of companion animals, in memory of their
beloved miniature schnauzer, Maddie. The foundation plans to spend more than
$200 million toward the goal of creating a "no-kill nation" for cats and dogs
who await adoption in shelters.
Onaway Trust
Supports extensive numbers of projects worldwide, including poverty and disaster
relief, animal welfare, and the support of indigenous peoples.
Planet Dog Philanthropy
Planet Dog Philanthropy, the philanthropic affiliate of Planet Dog, an
eco-friendly dog product company based in Portland Maine, is accepting proposals
for its new grant program. Planet Dog Philanthropy is dedicated to supporting
unique and effective programs taking compassionate action to preserve and
restore the natural environment, cultivate animal welfare and foster quality
education. PDP will award grants in amounts up to $5,000 to applicants in the
three program areas, and applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.
Grants will be awarded to both Maine based 501(c)(3) organizations as well
501(c)(3)'s in New England and around the country.
Purina Community Involvement Program
Purina has a long-standing
tradition of supporting charitable organizations, especially in communities
where the Company has offices and manufacturing operations. The Company aids a
broad range of charitable organizations, including those that assist the
disadvantaged, and those that support improvements in our educational systems.
Purina also supports pet-related projects and programs, both in St. Louis and in
cities where pet product manufacturing facilities are located. These efforts
range from contributing to humane shelters and funding assistance dogs to
providing scholarships at local colleges and universities.
Samung Companionship with Animals
One of the areas of interest to the Samsung Corporation is for companion
animals.
The Spoehr-Clarke Foundation
The Foundation’s mission is to make grants to grass-roots groups and individuals
working in the areas of wildlife and wilderness protection, the environment, and
animal welfare. The Foundation encourages groups or individuals who may not be
funded by larger, more traditional foundations to apply. Nonprofit institutions
with specific needs or programs may also qualify for grants. The grant-making is
currently limited primarily to Vermont, New Hampshire and Hawai'i.

The Whitley Animal Protection
Trust
This year, as the award scheme broadens its focus from animals to wider nature
conservation issues, the Whitley Award Scheme is to be further enhanced as the
funds available for the annual prize are increased to £100,000. The Scheme,
administered by The Royal Geographical Society (with the Institute of British
Geographers) is funded by the Whitley Animal Protection Trust, the Iris Daunton
Foundation and the Rufford Foundation.
