Health Related Issues...
In this section we attempt to address the many messages from persons who have some sort of illness/disability and are either requesting financial assistance to meet their obligations, start a business or need to obtain needed equipment. again, as in the other sections, we are including messages we have received.

Business Loan v Grants...
As we discussed in our Grants vs Loans section, anyone who is interested in obtaining a loan will need to develop a sound Business Plan. If you have never done this we have provided you with resources in that section to point you in the right direction. If what you are seeking is a grant, then your challenge is more difficult.

Options...
There are different options available depending on your needs. If you are a disabled person and what you seek is a business loan, we suggest you review the information on the above mentioned section.  As disabled person you may have more options available in terms of sources and programs to which you can apply. However, the Business Plan requirement also applies to you.

Government Grants...
Several of our visitors have mentioned "Free Grants to individuals" from the Federal Government. We would be remiss if we did not tell you that we have never heard of them, with exception of FEMA disaster grants, but this does not mean that others do not exist. We are aware of several books in the subject but have never read one. The titles of the books are Government Giveaways for Entrepreneurs III." This book is not just a phone book of financial assistance. It will also give you tips on how to get government loans and grants. It also preps you for what is to come when starting a business. Free Money from the Federal Government for Small Businesses and Entrepreneurs and Free Money to Change Your Life are two other books.

If you are a disabled veteran the first place on your list should be the Veterans Administration web site. They provide extensive information on programs and benefits to which you can apply.

Foundation Grants... reality check..
Many people are under the impression that   if they apply to a foundation their chances  of obtaining a grant  are very good. Foundations, because of their charter, can only provide funds (grants) to organizations with a 501(c)(3) designation for them most part. There are those who will provide grants to individuals to "advance the cause of philanthropy." This means that the program you are proposing will be of benefit to the nonprofit sector  or to the foundations' own programs.

Our suggestion is for you to identify nonprofit organizations in your town/city, county and state, and the services/programs they provide. You should also identify programs your state funds that are in-line with your needs. Do not be hesitant to make an appointment with the Executive Director of a local nonprofit organization to see how his/her organization can assist you. They may not have the exact program you are seeking, but they can point you in the right direction and save you hours of research. Remember, nonprofit organizations exist to serve their community.

Other health related issues...
We have received messages regarding other   health related issues besides disability. As  we find  resources addressing these issues we will add them to this page.

Other Resources:
The site that has impressed us the most is Disability Resources Monthly. If there is anything on the Internet regarding disability resources you will find it at their site. We suggest that you begin with their FAQs section first.
